Prices soar for the Lamborghini Urraco in 2014 !

Spotted this, the "famous" Wheeler Dealers episode P250 now for sale on PistonHeads.com June 2014 and what a price at nearly £56,000. It's certainly looks a nice car and I can tell everything looks just right on it - at least from the photos.

MOT pass for my Lamborghini Urraco!!

Today is a good day and I'm sure you will all share my joy as my Urraco passed it's inspection with the tester praising my rebuild work

It was nice to go for a little drive afterwards. Now I'll take a little break from working on the Lambo and give my other cars some attention

Lamborghini Urraco brakes and handbrake adjustment

So my plan for the hand brake worked. When I looked behind the cover underneath, the handbrake adjustment was too tight - probably to try and make the brake work better, but it takes brains not tightness With the lever loosened, the calliper levers moved further back and then I adjusted the adjustment screws on the pads and now it is nice and solid on 4 or 5 clicks of the lever.

I've bled the brakes again and a few more tiny bubbles have come out of the front probably now it has all settled. I think this calliper is probably not so great to bleed. Modern 4 piston Brembos bleed just fine. The peddle feels pretty consistent now.

I still didn't find any source for a knock (which only happens on full left lock and when the car is at a certain angle) and the steering rack is firm, with the plastic bush just fine and the dampers good.

So now the car is finally prepared for it's UK MOT roadworthy test. Maybe the MOT inspectors will find something they are not happy with - we will see on Thursday...

I guess on Friday I will either be driving the car or fixing the car once more...

Shake down test run !

Yesterday I drove the car out of the garage for the first time in 3 months! for a shake down test.

A few things came up.

1) the hand brake pulls up too high, but the levers on the callipers are already adjusted too much I think. So I think I need to remove the cover from underneath, loose off the cable to let the levers out at the callipers , then adjust the pads so that the brakes lock on with only 4 or so clicks of the handbrake.

2) The hydraulics are a bit soft unless I pump the brake pedal twice. Given that I pulled all the callipers off there may be some air still in the system... so I'll re-bleed... again...

3) Still get a knock/pop on full lock when pulling off my drive way. I thought it would be the top mounts, but now they are new, the lower ball joints are nice and tight and I fitted new track rod ends (VW bus 1969-79) so it might be the steering rack somewhere which I didn't really touch.

Also might as well check the steering dampers and replace with the Merc 280 SL ones

Making progress on the Lamborghini Urraco

So here are some updates:

1) This is why I appear to make good progress - when others are watching TV I am in the garage with 4 layers of clothing on getting on with the job

2) and 3) a jig shaft to align the original and Volvo strut mounts for marking out and reshaping and drilling the mounting holes

4) had so make a piece to repair a big chunk missing from the heater scoop - not sure how that was broken off, but it would explain why the fresh are intake wasn't so good in summer! Original is made from ABS and the new white piece cut to fit the broken section is glued in with ABS solvent cement (used by plumbers)

5) I found one Urraco/Countach wheel on ebay only 40 miles away - I won it and know I have it It's not so pretty and will need properly cleaning, sealing and painting but I wanted an extra spare...

Lamborghini Urraco front suspension rebuild - new top mounts

So now to rebuild the front suspension.

Cleaned and painted bits going back on. Everything is in re-usable condition.

Made new suspension top mounts from Volvo 240 items as per Tony's website. It's a cheap solution. Not a rose joint, but they are new and £20 each so it's a good compromise. The shock doesn't pivot very much at all at the top from top to bottom travel (and of course the Volvo suspension is very similar anyway).

Ok, it's not a rose joint, but I think for my usage (shows) it will be fine. We'll test for the first time next week. They need an adapter bush machining as the hole in the Volvo mount is larger (diameter) and clearly sunken in a well.

Because I can't use the original large hex washer (which allows you to lock the spindle as you tighten the nut) I had to use two thinner nuts to luck the top mount on. Bottom nut is original machined down and the top one is actually a VW wheel nut machined down, advantage is being smaller you can more easily use two spanners to tighten it.

Last picture is the whole front axle assembly installed now and bleeding the freshly rebuild calliper.

Just the drivers side left...
